Gary "Mani" Mounfield—iconic bassist of The Stone Roses and Primal Scream—passed away on November 20, 2025, at 63. Tributes poured in from The Stone Roses’ official team, frontman Ian Brown, and Primal Scream, who called him "the greatest bassist and friend we could have ever dreamed of"—a testament to his indelible mark on British alternative rock.

A pioneer of Manchester’s music scene, The Stone Roses (avid Manchester United fans) used their anthem This Is the One as Old Trafford’s exit music for years. Mani joined the band in 1987, contributing to two groundbreaking albums and the golden age of Madchester before their 1996 split. Their 1989 self-titled debut The Stone Roses—blending psychedelic rock, indie, and Acid House—sparked the "neo-psychedelia" and "Baggy" movements, with classics like I Wanna Be Adored, She Bangs The Drums, and Fools Gold anchored by his signature basslines.

Post-1996, Mani joined Primal Scream, recording five albums between 1997–2008. He reunited with The Stone Roses for their 2011–2017 comeback, solidifying his legacy as a soulful, dynamic musician.
